If you have spent any amount of time in the truck equipment industry, you know how much knowledge lives here. There is history, technical expertise, product nuance, regulatory complexity, and operational insight layered into almost every conversation.
For those of us who did not grow up in the industry, that can feel overwhelming at first. When you come from outside the commercial vehicle space, the learning curve can seem sharp. At times, it can feel almost insurmountable. There is so much to absorb and so much institutional knowledge that has been built over decades.
That is exactly why Generation Next matters.
Through NTEA, Generation Next was created to help emerging professionals get their footing. Our goal is simple. We want to give people a real starting point. A foundation. A hand up as they begin learning how this industry works and where they fit into it.
Generation Next brings together professionals from across the commercial vehicle ecosystem, including engineering, operations, sales, marketing, leadership and more. It creates space to ask questions, connect the dots between segments of the industry, and build confidence over time.
We are not trying to fast track anyone past the fundamentals. We are focused on helping people understand them. Because when you understand how the pieces fit together, you can contribute in a more meaningful way to your company and to the industry as a whole.
One of the best parts of this industry is the willingness to share knowledge. That is not always the case in every field. Here, you will find mentors and leaders who genuinely want to help the next generation succeed. People are open with their experience. They take calls. They answer questions. They invest time.
That culture of mentorship is something that makes the work truck community unique. We help each other grow.
As the next generation of professionals steps into larger roles, they will be the ones leading upfitters, body manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers. Generation Next is focused on helping them build a strong base of industry knowledge now, while also creating opportunities to connect with peers and develop a network they can rely on for years to come.
Professional development is a key part of that effort. As the industry becomes more complex, practical and accessible education is critical, especially for those who are newer to the commercial vehicle space.
NTEA webinars are one way we are expanding those learning opportunities.
A recent example is Work Trucks 101, presented by NTEA Managing Director Kevin Koester and brought to you by Generation Next. Sessions like this provide introductory insight into truck equipment and the upfitting process, helping create a shared baseline of understanding across roles and companies.
The Generation Next Steering Committee continues to explore additional ways to build on this foundation through expanded educational content and learning opportunities that meet professionals where they are in their careers. Gen Next members: to hear about upcoming webinars and networking opportunities, email luci@ntea.com to join our email list, or join our LinkedIn group.
Beyond education, Generation Next encourages involvement in NTEA programs and events. The relationships built through these interactions strengthen not only individual careers, but the long-term health of the industry.
Investing in emerging professionals today helps ensure that the work truck industry remains knowledgeable, connected, and resilient in the years ahead.
