EPA/NHTSA issue Phase 2 truck rules

Published in the September 2016 issue of Washington Update

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) jointly issued the second round of greenhouse gas emissions and fuel efficiency regulations affecting medium- and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. The 1,000+ page rule was signed August 16 but has not yet been published in the Federal Register.

These Phase 2 regulations set separate standards that will be phased in for tractors, vocational trucks and medium-duty pickup trucks and vans in 2021, 2024 and fully in 2027. New rules for trailers will begin in 2018.

NTEA will be publishing a more detailed summary in the next issue of NTEA News.
