Work Truck Industry Welder Certification Program

Manufacturers and distributors in the work truck industry that want to hire, train and retain certified welders should consider sending one person from each location to participate in the three-day Train-the-Trainer session. At the completion of the course, your trained trainer will have the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to educate and certify your welding team on site at your facility.

This program, developed in collaboration with Lincoln Electric Company and National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), is designed to help you establish an internal welder training and certification program for your facility.

What is the Work Truck Industry Welder Certification Program?

One of the most critical issues within the commercial vehicle community is attracting, training, and retaining employees — especially in skilled trades such as welding — due to increasingly high demand. The LEEPS for NTEA program was created to help address this challenge.

This unique program provides companies in the work truck industry with access to a consistent training curriculum they can utilize to train and certify welders within their organizations. Through this initiative, work truck industry businesses will have the tools they need to launch an in-house training curriculum that they can utilize for the development of welders.

All participants that attend this unique training program will have the opportunity to receive the following four certifications:

  • Welding Safety
  • Principles of Welding
  • Introduction to GMAW
  • Advanced GMAW

The program includes a Train-the-Trainer requirement, which upon completion prepares each participant to become the welding program Trainer within their organization. Upon successful completion of the Train-the-Trainer session, each participant will be certified as an NC3 Trainer and have the skills required to conduct the program training, testing and certification of their organization’s employees.

NTEA member companies that have successfully completed the program advise that it can take about six to eight weeks after completion of the on-site training course to implement the training at your facility and certify your current welders with this program. Once you have become an NC3 member and successfully completed the Train-the-Trainer initiative, you will have continual access to their online learning management system that is regularly updated with new course content.

Optionally, certified trainers can choose to attend NC3 and Lincoln Electric Education Partner Schools (LEEPS) GMAW Aluminum & Stainless – Steel Virtual Train-the-Trainer session to become GMAW certified GMAW trainers for both Aluminum and Stainless Steel.

What To Expect

Individuals attending the Train-the-Trainer program will need to bring the following with them to class:
  1. A laptop or Chromebook in order to access curriculum materials and the learning management system, as well as take the required assessments
  2. All necessary personal protective equipment, including but not limited to steel-toed boots, welding helmet, welding hat, welding jacket, safety glasses, ear protection, and gloves
  3. Welding tools, such as pliers and wire cutters, are optional

Lincoln Electric will provide all other necessary materials. Breakfast and lunch will be provided during the three-day training period.

NC3 will communicate with all registered participants leading up to the Train-the-Trainer program to ensure they have necessary information, including the program agenda, list of required materials, program expectations, access to the applicable websites and the learning management system, and details on any online coursework that needs to be completed prior to the start. NC3 will conduct a video call several weeks before to review program details/ requirements and answer questions.
