U.S./Mexico – SALES
U.S./Mexico commercial truck chassis sales declined -2.3% year-over-year (YoY) in May 2026 compared to May 2025. Year-to-date (YTD) sales are down -7.5%. Complete vehicle results were mixed, with Tractor sales down -7.4% YoY and -24.7% YTD, while Commercial Van sales increased +3.0% YoY and are up +9.0% YTD.
By cab type, results were mixed. Strip chassis posted the strongest gain at +15.2% YoY, while Cutaway declined -1.8%, Conventional declined -2.9%, and LCOE fell -21.3%. YTD results remain negative for most cab types, with only Cutaway positive through May.
By GVWR, results were also mixed. Class 7 sales increased +5.7% YoY, and Class 2 edged up +0.8%. Classes 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 declined, with the largest decreases in Class 8 at -6.4% and Class 5 at -5.9%. YTD results show a similar pattern of softness, with Classes 5, 6, 7, and 8 all down compared to the same period last year.
U.S./Mexico – SHIPMENTS
Truck chassis shipments in the U.S./Mexico region increased +3.2% YoY in May 2026, although YTD shipments remain down -3.7%. Complete vehicle shipments were mixed, with Tractor shipments down -8.4% YoY but up +4.6% YTD, while Commercial Van shipments increased +3.6% YoY and are up +1.0% YTD.
By cab type, most configurations increased year-over-year. Strip posted the largest gain at +28.4%, followed by LCOE at +13.1% and Cutaway at +7.6%. Conventional was the only cab type to decline for the month, down -1.6%, and remains down -7.8% YTD.
By GVWR, most classes increased year-over-year, led by Class 5 at +11.4%, Class 2 at +7.6%, and Class 3 at +5.8%. Class 8 declined -11.4% and remains slightly negative YTD. Overall, May shipments were firmer than the YTD trend, but cumulative shipments still remain below last year's pace.
Canada – SALES
Canadian commercial truck chassis sales increased +14.7% YoY in May 2026, with YTD sales up +21.1%. Complete vehicle sales were mixed, with Tractor sales down -5.4% YoY and -16.3% YTD, while Commercial Van sales increased +20.5% YoY and are up +31.5% YTD.
By cab type, most configurations increased year-over-year. Conventional led the market, rising +20.8% YoY, followed by Strip at +11.2% and LCOE at +1.1%. Cutaway declined -0.8% for the month but remains positive YTD. Overall, Canada's cab type results remained positive through May, with all four configurations up year-to-date.
By GVWR, several classes posted strong gains. Class 3 increased +83.3% YoY, Class 6 rose +53.8%, and Class 7 gained +37.7%. Classes 5 also increased, while Classes 2, 4, and 8 declined for the month. YTD results remain positive across most weight classes, with Class 8 the only class down through May.
Canada – SHIPMENTS
Canadian truck chassis shipments declined -12.5% YoY in May 2026 but are up +10.4% YTD. Complete vehicle shipments were mixed, with Tractor shipments down -8.6% YoY and -46.8% YTD, while Commercial Van shipments increased +7.8% YoY and are up +5.5% YTD.
By cab type, results were mixed. Strip increased +39.1% YoY, Cutaway rose +21.8%, and LCOE increased +12.7%. Conventional declined -28.0% for the month, although it remains up +10.2% YTD. The cab type mix points to positive cumulative shipment activity despite a weaker May comparison.
By weight class, Class 3 shipments posted the strongest increase at +25.0% YoY, while Class 5 also increased +9.9%. Classes 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8 declined year-over-year. YTD results remain positive in Classes 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7, but Classes 5 and 8 are down through May.
Summary Insights
May results show continued unevenness across North American chassis activity. U.S./Mexico sales remained below last year's pace, with YTD sales down -7.5%, while shipments improved for the month but remain down -3.7% YTD. Canada continued to outperform on sales, up +14.7% YoY and +21.1% YTD, although shipments declined -12.5% for the month. Commercial Van activity remained a relative strength in both regions, while Tractor sales remained under pressure. Overall, May data points to selected areas of improvement, particularly U.S./Mexico shipments and Canadian sales, but the broader market remains mixed through the first five months of 2026.
