Electric-Powered Vehicles, Electrolyte Spillage and Electrical Shock Protection*
This Standard applies to MPVs, trucks and buses with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. (4,536 kg) or less, that use more than 48 nominal volts of electricity as propulsion power and whose speed attainable in one mile (1.6 km) on a paved level surface is more than 25 mph (40 km/h). It specifies requirements for limitation of electrolyte spillage, retention of propulsion batteries during a crash, and electrical isolation of the chassis from the high-voltage system.
*This Standard specifies barrier testing.
