Rear Impact Protection
This Standard applies to trailers and semi-trailers with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. (4,536 kg) or more. It requires those new trailers and semi-trailers to be equipped with a rear-impact guard conforming
to FMVSS 223. It also specifies that the guard is mounted on the trailer or semi-trailer in accordance with the instructions of the guard manufacturer.
