Impact Protection for the Driver from the Steering Control System
This Standard applies to MPVs, trucks and buses with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. (4,536 kg) or less. It does not apply to vehicles that conform to the frontal barrier crash requirements of FMVSS 208 by means other than seat belt assemblies. It also does not apply to walk-in vans. It specifies requirements for steering control system force transmission during impact with a body block. The steering wheel and attachments must be so constructed that they will not snag clothing or jewelry.
