Seating, headliners and other material in the vehicle occupant area

Upfitters are asking about which regulations apply when adding seats, headliners and other equipment in commercial vehicles. One concern involves the materials used in constructing seats, seat coverings, headliners, carpeting, and more. FMVSS 302: Flammability of Interior Materials applies to many materials in the occupant compartment of a truck, bus, multipurpose passenger vehicle and passenger car. This standard has certain testing requirements for materials in the occupant area.
