Determining frontal area restrictions

We are an upfitter, and during the body and equipment installation process, we noticed some chassis with frontal area and completed vehicle weight limitations in their incomplete vehicle documents and body builder books. As an alterer or final-stage manufacturer, do we have to follow these restrictions? What Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard applies to this frontal area requirement?
