The Municipal and Fleet Product Sales Specialist is responsible for driving sales of Switch-N-Go (SNG) products to municipal entities and fleet customers via both distributor networks and direct sales. This role combines strategic development, sales execution, product demonstration, and support for municipal contracts and fleet customers in sectors such as residential trash, rental, and specialty fleets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Account Development
- Acts as a professional resource and solutions provider in any instance for distributors, municipal entities and fleets.
- Builds and fosters a network of referrals to create new opportunities for revenue growth.
- Develop research for SNG sales targets by-way of internal contact lists, purchased contacts, lists of regional and state level municipal contract providers, trade shows and distributors provide information.
- Travels routinely 30% to 70% of the time throughout U.S. to call on current and prospective municipal and fleet customers.
- Performs professional presentations and/or demonstrations of company product(s)/service(s) while at Dealers or End user sites using demonstration vehicles and product literature.
- Develop and maintain SNG’s customer database for the Municipal customers segment.
- Develop understanding of SNG Trash Fleet segment, maintaining key customer contacts and providing support resources as required to expand their business segments with SNG products.
- Generates and develops new customer accounts to increase revenue, by cold-calling if necessary, and a wide variety of other sales tactics.
- Must articulate the SNG “value proposition’ and work to overcome objections of prospective customers by understanding how to upsell SNG products that can meet a wide range of end user needs.
Other Key Responsibilities
- Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained. Ensures customers understand SNG lead-times for deliveries and provides appropriate follow-up on orders.
- Work with SNG management to provide voice of customer feedback and market intelligence to drive the creation of the company’s municipal and fleet strategies.
- Maintains professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the company in a positive manner.
- Actively manages call schedule to adequately cover assigned territory in a time-efficient manner.
- Uses marketing data using applicable sales management software tools to maximize sales effectiveness.
- Maintains accurate records, including sales call reports, expense reimbursement forms, billing invoices, and other documentation.
- Keeps account activities and literature up to date while in the inside sales role working with the marketing department.
- Leads and coordinates customer training on products, applications and safe operations.
- Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
- Attends trade shows.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a technical school or two-year college (Bachelor’s preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of sales experience, preferably in municipal or distributor-based equipment sales.
- Proven ability to develop and manage customer accounts in a B2B setting.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word); CRM or sales software knowledge is a plus.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional sales team.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Medical Examiner’s Certificate in compliance with FMCSA regulations (49 CFR 391.41.391.49).
- Willingness to travel 30%–70% nationwide for customer visits, demos, and trade shows.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and conduct hands-on product demonstrations.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of sales strategy, pricing, and contract negotiation.
- Ability to interpret technical documents, government regulations, and sales reports.
