Service Trucks International (STI) celebrated the opening of a new manufacturing and assembly facility for their Tiger Cranes product line. The 16-month project marks a significant milestone in the company’s strategic growth and long-term commitment to having a greater impact on the US mobile crane market. The occasion was marked by a ribbon cutting, open house, and tours that coincided with National Manufacturing Month.
The 56,000 ft2 structure includes 7 assembly bays, interior and exterior load testing spaces, and inventory storage capabilities for more than 70 completed units. The production enhancements enable output of more than twice the current number of Tiger Cranes. Beyond production capacity considerations, a high-efficiency, 300-well geothermal heating and cooling system was added to provide a climate-controlled environment.
"Investment in manufacturing is critical to our local economy," said Walt Van Laren, President of STI. “This building is a testament to our community that we can build a facility like this. It allows a dream that we’ve had to come to life while laying the groundwork for future expansion.”
Tiger Cranes has a 36-year history of manufacturing mobile cranes for use on STI mechanic’s trucks – those servicing large equipment in agriculture, road construction, site prep, and utility industries. The cranes are also used as optional installations on other manufacturers’ trucks, and in rail and inland marine settings for cargo management.
The building is the first of a 3-Phase, multi-million-dollar expansion project that creates dedicated production centers for both cranes and service body finishing. Ultimately, Phase 2 and 3 will expand service body production and provide a new corporate office and administrative building.
