Are you interested in learning more about truck frames? Whether you’re new to the commercial vehicle industry or experienced, NTEA provides training and resources for professionals of all skill levels, including a Truck Frame Fundamentals online course, as well as a four-part, on-demand Truck Frame Fundamentals video series.
Truck Frame Fundamentals online course
NTEA’s online course covers need-to-know aspects of truck frames in commercial vehicles. Topics include frame material, loads and fatigue, stress concentrations and truck frame splicing and reinforcement.
This course is available to NTEA members at no cost (login required) and to nonmembers at $199. It is eligible for continuing education units through NTEA’s accreditation by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training.
Truck Frame Fundamentals video series
Guided by industry expert Dick Toner, each video (complete with illustrations and photographs) in this series delves into critical elements of truck frame integrity. Modules cover everything from material strength and load dynamics to real-world failures and best practices for splicing and reinforcement.
In Module 1: Overview, Failures and Loads, gain foundational knowledge of truck frame design in this introductory session. Topics covered include:
- Key elements of frame structure
- Common causes of frame failure
- Load distribution and dynamic impacts
In Module 2: Materials, Rail Strength, Shape and Deflection, understand the essential factors that influence truck frame performance. This video explores:
- The role of materials in structural integrity
- The importance of frame rail strength and shape
- Deflection and its effect of deflection on long-term durability
In Module 3: Stress Concentrations, Frame Fatigue, Wheelbase Changes and RBM, deepen your technical insight with a video focused on:
- Identifying stress concentrations and fatigue points
- Effects of wheelbase changes
- Resistive bending moment (RBM) and its structural significance
Finally, in Module 4: Splicing and Reinforcement, review practical guidelines for:
- Frame splicing techniques
- Reinforcement strategies for structural integrity
- Avoiding common pitfalls in a what-went-wrong Q&A segment
For maximum benefit, NTEA recommends users watch all videos in order. Members can also access the presentation slides used in each video after logging in. Learn more at ntea.com/truckframeseries.
