FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (Feb. 14, 2023) — NTEA, in collaboration with The Lincoln Electric Company and National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), is pleased to announce registration is open for the spring 2023 Train-the-Trainer session for the Work Truck Industry Welder Certification Program. The spring session takes place April 11–13, 2023, at Lincoln Electric Welding Technology and Training Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Work Truck Industry Welder Certification Program provides industry companies with access to a consistent training curriculum they can utilize to train and certify welders within their organizations. Through this initiative, work truck industry businesses will have the tools they need to launch an in-house training curriculum they can utilize for the development of welders.

“This industry-specific program, which includes a valuable Train-the-Trainer initiative for company-designated trainers, was developed to help companies create their own welder education and certification programs right in the workplace,” said Nikki Wilson, senior director of member services, NTEA. “I’m thrilled to play a role in this important initiative as it continues to evolve based on participant feedback. As an example, we are getting ready to launch virtual gas metal arc welding (GMAW) courses on aluminum and stainless steel.”

NTEA member company, Truck Bodies & Equipment International (TBEI), a subsidiary of Federal Signal Corporation, contributed to the development of the curriculum and participated in the program when it was first introduced in 2021.

“As many companies in our industry know, finding experienced and qualified welding candidates has become increasingly difficult over the past few years,” said Tina Albright, TBEI (Lake Crystal, Minnesota) vice president, human relations & safety. “During this time, we began working on an internal welding school to attract applicants from many different industries with the goal of teaching them the skills to become a welder. Our organization struggled with some of the academic portions of this class, so we welcomed the opportunity when NTEA approached us about participating in the development of a Train-the-Trainer program for welders. This program provides both hands-on skills and knowledge of the theory behind welding technology. We are excited to leverage this program at TBEI and are currently implementing it across our many facilities. We look forward to having a standardized and repeatable program at all of our facilities.”
