Debt ceiling debate looming

Congress left for the traditional summer recess but will be looking at a possibly contentious debate over the debt ceiling when they return in September. The House and Senate leadership would like to pass a straightforward debt ceiling increase prior to the government exceeding its borrowing authority on September 29. Many in Congress view this as an opportunity to cut spending and want conditions imposed on the debt ceiling increase.
