Featuring General Truck Body

This article was published in the February 2019 edition of NTEA News.

NTEA recently spoke with General Body Mfg. Co. Texas (DBA: General Truck Body), a Distributor member headquartered in Houston, Texas. GTB has two divisions in Houston, a third in Arlington, Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex) and a fourth facility in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 1961, Morris Levitch established GTB in Houston after his father opened shop in 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, building horse-drawn carriages. When vehicles became motorized, GTB kept pace and began constructing truck bodies for this new mode of transportation. Barbara Levitch Paull purchased the company in 1984 and is now president and CEO. Her son, Josh Paull, is the fourth generation of family ownership. Both production and sales staff bring years of experience to the organization’s customers.

GTB’s truck equipment divisions represent manufacturers known for producing durable products. The company consistently works to provide the right equipment combination for any commercial truck application and can customize products to meet a customer’s specific transportation requirements. Its truck equipment offerings include service bodies, mechanics’ trucks, flatbeds, goosenecks, dumps, hoists, liftgates, cranes, and a variety of van shelving and toolboxes.

The organization’s custom manufacturing division in Houston offers turnkey product development from concept through completion. GTB’s approach to design engineering blends the scientific and practical aspects to ensure the best results for customers. The first responder division includes multi-patient vehicles, wildfire brush trucks, fire and rescue rehab units, mobile command control centers and high-water rescue units.

General Truck Body operates commercial truck and van pools for Chevrolet, Ford, GMC and Ram. Its DFW Metroplex location provides van and pickup truck ship-thru for GM, and the Louisville site is a ship-thru for Ford Super Duty and Escape.

GTB celebrates two important milestones in 2019 — 100 years of building high-quality, cost-effective solutions for the work truck industry and its 50-year anniversary as an NTEA member. Additionally, the company is part of the Association’s Member Verification Program, which recognizes eligible companies in the work truck industry for outstanding business practices and successful implementation of quality standards.
