Infrastructure plans introduced by both sides

Published in the March 2018 issue of Washington Update

The White House released a $1.5 trillion transportation infrastructure proposal relying heavily on state and local funding and public-private partnerships. The federal government’s share of this proposal would amount only to $200 million.

Senate Democrats responded with a $1 trillion package funded primarily by rolling back parts of last year’s tax reform. The plan would return the top individual tax rate to 39.6 percent, raise the top corporate tax rate from 21 percent to 25 percent, and undo the exemption increase for the estate tax.
