FET legislation gains co-sponsors

Published in the July 2018 issue of Washington Update

Repeal of the federal excise tax (FET) on heavy trucks is gaining support in both the House and Senate.

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) introduced S. 3052 on June 12 to repeal the FET. The Senate introduction comes as the existing House repeal bill, HR 2946 introduced by Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), gains co-sponsors. HR 2946 currently has 21 bipartisan co-sponsors.

It is hoped that FET repeal will be considered this fall in the context of overall infrastructure finance reform.
