Over the years that I have been attending The Work Truck Show®, I have to say this year’s edition made for yet another great show! NTEA did a remarkable job organizing and planning the Show, and Generation Next was busy as well. I’d like to provide insight on what Generation Next members can expect next year, as well as what your Board of Governors does in support of the event.

First, I want to thank Andrew Dawson for his leadership as chairman for Generation Next Board of Governors. Andrew did an outstanding job leading the Board over the past year and inspired us to continue making Generation Next better.

I also want to welcome the new Board of Governors: Melissa Bergkamp, Ryan Middleton, T.J. Miller, and Daniel Sears.

Generation Next at the Show

We held our Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday, March 6, followed by the third annual Take5 networking event. As a new twist on Take5, we held a raffle for new Generation Next members. This event was held in the Wreck Room, where individuals could play games and spend time networking and building relationships. I was happy to meet new industry professionals, and played basketball and competitive shuffleboard games.

The sold-out Generation Next Leadership Workshop and Networking Reception was held Wednesday, March 7. The event launched with a briefing on what the Board of Governors worked on in 2017 – namely, the Board developed a five-year strategic plan to serve as a roadmap for future Board members; two committees were also created to focus on membership, marketing, social media and professional development.

Then, Jen Shirkani, author, Penumbra Group, delivered “Ego vs. EQ – How Top Leaders Beat 8 Ego Traps with Emotional Intelligence.”

Finally, Board of Governors members were at the NTEA Booth on Thursday, March 8 to meet Generation Next members and answer questions about programs.
