Modernize the Truck Fleet Week

NTEA joined other truck industry leaders for Modernize the Truck Fleet Week, June 17–21, 2019, in Washington, DC. The week involved advocacy efforts to encourage members of Congress to co-sponsor the Modern, Clean and Safe Trucks Act of 2019 (HR 2381 and S. 1839), a bipartisan bill that would repeal Federal Excise Tax (FET). A press conference will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019, to address this issue.

Repealing FET would reduce the acquisition cost of new trucks currently subject to the tax by 12% and allow purchasers to more readily integrate cleaner and safer vehicles into their fleet. Additionally, repeal would clear the way to better alternative funding mechanisms for highway repair and maintenance.

We encourage you to contact your representative and ask them to support HR 2381 and both of your senators to support S. 1839.

NTEA’s Mike Kastner calls for FET repeal at the Modernize the Truck Fleet press conference held on June 19, 2019. At right is Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), sponsor of H.R. 2381 “The Modern, Clean and Safe Trucks Act.”
