Tax reform before Christmas?

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said he hopes to complete tax reform in November but will keep the House in session through Christmas if necessary.

The first step in overall reform is passage of a budget resolution. The House approved a fairly conservative resolution that would balance the budget within a decade and calls for $203 billion in mandatory spending cuts. The Senate is still working on their proposal which currently does not call for any mandatory spending cuts and allows for $1.5 trillion in new spending.
