Government shutdown looming

Published in the January 2018 issue of Washington Update

Since the beginning its fiscal year in October 2017, the Federal government has been funded through Continuing Resolutions (CR) - short-term patches. The latest CR ends January 19, 2018, with a shutdown possible January 20, 2018, unless action is taken.

To avoid the shutdown, Congress appears to be considering selecting one of three options: 1) Pass another short-term CR; 2) Arrive at a two-year agreement setting spending levels for 2018 and 2019; or 3) Arrive at a one-year deal for 2018.
