NTEA is pleased to welcome General Michael Hayden, USAF (Ret.) as keynote speaker at The Work Truck Show® 2018. The retired four-star general, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and National Security Agency (NSA), will discuss striking the right strategic balance between autonomy and unity. His address takes place Thursday, March 8, as part of the President’s Breakfast.
The Work Truck Show 2018 runs March 6–9 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sessions begin March 6, and the exhibit hall is open March 7–9.
As head of the country’s premier intelligence agencies, Hayden was on the frontline of global change, the war on terrorism and the growing cyber challenge. In addition to leading CIA and NSA, Hayden was the country’s first principal deputy director of national intelligence and highest-ranking military intelligence officer. His background includes positions as commander of the Air Intelligence Agency; director of the Joint Command and Control Warfare Center; deputy chief of staff for the United Nations Command and U.S. Forces in South Korea; and senior staff at the Pentagon, U.S. European Command, National Security Council and U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria.
In his various roles, he worked to put a human face on U.S. intelligence, explaining the role of espionage in protecting American security and liberty. He has the ability to dissect hot spots around the world, analyzing the tumultuous global environment, dynamics of the recent U.S. election and what it all means for American interests.
Hayden has been a frequent commentator on major news outlets and in top publications, valued for his expertise on intelligence topics like cyber security, government surveillance, geopolitics, and more. He was featured in Manhunt (an HBO documentary with an insider perspective on espionage from those who led the secret war against Osama bin Laden) and Showtime’s The Spymasters (a detailed look at CIA directors).
Currently, Hayden is a principal at the Chertoff Group and distinguished visiting professor at the George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government. In 2014, he was the inaugural Humanitas visiting professor in intelligence studies at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. His recent memoir, “Playing to the Edge: American Intelligence in the Age of Terror,” has been a New York Times bestseller — selected as one of the 100 most notable books of 2016.
