In November, NTEA’s Board of Directors gathered at our annual fall meeting to discuss Association planning and future strategy. As with any business, value is periodically evaluated and assessed comparative to what members pay for access to products and services. That being said, to more accurately mirror industry growth and evolution, the Board made a decision to realign membership structure and dues effective Jan. 1, 2020. These changes better reflect the benefits included as part of your annual investment and create an inflationary safeguard to prevent the need for significant increases in the future.

NTEA strives to be an exemplary steward of membership dues dollars and approached these changes very thoughtfully. The review process was overseen by the Finance & Investment Committee, prior to bringing the revised structure to the NTEA Board for review and approval.  Since the Association’s last dues adjustment more than six years ago, numerous offerings have been added, at no extra cost, to increase membership value. New resources free to members include

Beyond these tools, NTEA offers members discounted rates to essential industry events, including Truck Product Conference, Executive Leadership Summit and The Work Truck Show®. In addition, members have free access to regularly updated industry and market data (with analysis from NTEA’s staff economist); technical reports, articles and resources, including the technical services team of engineers; and legislative and regulatory advocacy through government relations offices in Washington, DC, and Ottawa, Ontario.

This represents just a fraction of what the Association offers, so if you haven’t already, I strongly encourage you to explore all of the opportunities available. Membership is for your whole company I want to emphasize another aspect of NTEA membership that may sometimes be overlooked. One annual payment enables everyone in your organization to utilize the programs, services, resources and discounts offered.

In fact, some of our business units in Safe Fleet were not maximizing this opportunity, but now, we regularly benefit from the company-wide Association membership structure. For example, Truck Equipment 101, a foundational course covering all aspects of work trucks and the industry, is part of our Commercial Vehicle business unit’s mandatory training and onboarding curriculum. Truck Equipment 201, designed for those seeking a deeper understanding of TE101 topics, serves as an effective way to expand our employees’ knowledge on relevant industry topics. Not to mention, employees don’t have to go off-site for industry training, which can help save on travel expenses.
