Serving on the NTEA Board of Directors has been a great experience. Part of my reason for getting involved was to give back to the industry that has meant so much to me throughout my career; however, I’ve found my journey from new Board member to chair has also provided even more than I anticipated. In reflecting on this journey, I’m reminded of the phrase, “It is in giving that we receive.”

As we approach the upcoming Board nomination and election process — and for those who might be interested in getting involved — I wanted to share a little about what Board service has meant to me.

Community
Anyone who has attended Work Truck Week® knows how special our industry and its people are. Our commercial vehicle community is comprised of a depth and breadth of professionals who innovate, lead and drive their businesses in serving customers and getting the job done. It’s an honor to be a part of this collective. While on the Board, I've had the opportunity to meet and connect with Association members, Work Truck Week exhibitors and attendees, fellow Board members, and more, and have built relationships I will carry with me beyond my Board service.

Leadership
As mentioned previously, I’ve had a broad range of experience during my career, and I wanted to use that experience to support NTEA and its membership. Through my Board work and various contributions, I’ve not only been able to apply my experience but also flex my leadership skills in new ways. In addition, I’ve gained valuable insights into our industry that have helped further develop me as a leader and as an ambassador for our industry.

Purpose
Those who get involved in service positions, such as on a Board or with a charitable organization, are often champions of striving for a purpose. Serving on the NTEA Board allows me to leverage my industry knowledge and make a difference through the programs, events, services and education offered by the Association to the commercial vehicle community.
