Transport Canada recalls of interest (November 2020)

Following are summaries of product recalls of interest by Transport Canada.

Transport Canada Recall #2020-486
Notification Type Safety Mfr
Manufacturer Recall Number 20S60
Category Light Truck & Van
Issue:
On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.5 L engine, there may be a problem with the programming of the Powertrain Control Module. As a result, the engine could overheat. In certain cases, this could result in engine damage.
Safety Risk:
Overheating that causes engine damage could create the risk of a fire.
Corrective Actions:
Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the Powertrain Control Module software

Transport Canada Recall #2020-488
Notification Type Safety Mfr
Manufacturer Recall Number FL-865
Category Truck - Med. & H.D.
Issue:
On certain trucks equipped with an Eaton automated manual transmission and electronic clutch actuator (ECA), a component within the clutch assembly could fail. If this happens, the broken clutch components could prevent the transmission from disengaging or shifting to neutral. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, even if the parking brake is applied.
Note: This recall replaces FL-803 (Transport Canada recall 2018-714). Trucks that were repaired under that recall also require this repair.
Safety Risk:
Sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could create a risk of injury or a crash.
Corrective Actions:
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a DTNA authorized service facility to replace the clutch and update the transmission software.

Transport Canada Recall #2020-494
Notification Type Safety Mfr
Category Truck - Med. & H.D.
Issue:
On certain trucks equipped with a gas engine, the brake vacuum pump may fail. This can cause a hard brake pedal and an increase in brake pedal effort that is required to stop the truck. If the brake vacuum pump fails, the low vacuum light will turn on.
Safety Risk:
A sudden increase in brake pedal effort could lead to an increase in stopping distance. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
Mitsubishi Fuso will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

Transport Canada Recall #2020-513
Notification Type Safety Mfr
Manufacturer Recall Number FL-866
Category Truck - Med. & H.D.
Issue:
On certain trucks, the spindle nut snap ring on the left side of the steer axle may not be installed correctly or may be missing. As a result, the tire and wheel assembly could separate from the truck.
Safety Risk:
A wheel separation could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle.
Corrective Actions:
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a DTNA authorized service facility for an inspection. The snap ring will be reinstalled or replaced, as necessary.
