A New Engine: Hydrogen Fuel Cells Power Work Trucks with Zero Emissions
Hear firsthand from a hydrogen engine developer and
builder how hydrogen-powered Class 8 trucks have become a viable solution for today’s short-haul applications. They are at least 30% cheaper to operate than diesel or LNG trucks and offer higher horsepower and torque output. In addition, zero-emission trucks may help lessen the resistance to “Short Haul Trucking Expansions.”
Presented by: Martin Schuermann, CEO & President, Vision Industries Corp. (Pacific Palisades, CA)

Energy Storage: Status and Challenges for Use in Electric and Hybrid Electric Trucks
Energy storage is crucial in electric and hybrid electric systems and their successful use in fleets. If you are using or planning to use these systems, it is important to find out the current status and future of energy storage and the challenges still being faced.
Presented by: Tom Apalenek, Senior Principal Systems Engineer, BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence & Support, BAE Systems (Johnson City, NY); and Larry Zepp, Executive VP of Engineering, Variable Torque Motors LLC (Fort Wayne, IN)

Idle Reduction: Retrofitting for Fuel Use and Emissions Improvement
Idle-reduction has emerged as a green strategy that will likely provide fleets with substantial payback. Work trucks have proven ideal for installation of idle-reduction equipment, due to high idling hours necessary to drive auxiliary equipment, power warning lights and keep crews warm or cool. Hear real fleet experiences with the most common idle-management tactics — from high-tech to less complex, and from expensive to free. Also find out how an idle-reduction program can pay for itself.
Presented by: Matt Stewart, Senior Automotive Equipment Analyst, Department of Fleet Management, City of Chicago (Chicago, IL)

Renewable Natural Gas: Status and Challenges as a Transportation Fuel
A clean, renewable fuel is ready for fleet consideration. What is it and what are the best fleet applications?
Also, hear the decision process and successes found from utilization of this fuel.
Presented by: Mike Ippoliti, Director, Clean Transportation Solutions, CALSTART (Pasadena, CA); and Chuck White, Director, Regulatory Affairs/West, Waste Management (Sacramento, CA)

The Evolution of Auxiliary Power Units for Work Trucks
Today, the demands for making work trucks as efficient as possible are higher than ever. Learn from an experienced upfitter on how they are deploying Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for their customers’ vocational truck applications. Hear how the new technologies and developments in APUs can help eliminate dependence on the primary propulsion engine and dramatically reduce the lifetime fuel use of the vehicle.
Presented by: Pete Dondlinger, General Director, Railroad Operations, Auto Truck Group (Bartlett, IL)
