NHTSA Registration (Required) Criteria A

Federal law (49 Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] Part 566 – Manufacturer Identification) requires companies involved in various stages of motor vehicle manufacturing to register general company information and product descriptions with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). MVP applicants must therefore verify their registration.

If your company is not registered with NHTSA, refer to the “Tech Connections” article in the January 2011 issue of NTEA News for steps on how to register. (NTEA News articles can be found by visiting
www.ntea.com/newshub). If you are unsure of your NHTSA registration status, visit NHTSA’s web site (see below) and type in your company’s name. If your company’s correct name and address are not listed, you must register. Once you have sent your registration to NHTSA, follow the instructions below for submitting your registration documentation to the NTEA.

Check the following statement if it applies to your operation:
Our company is registered with NHTSA. As documentation, we submit
one (1) of the following:

• A screen shot of the NHTSA web page (www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/manufacture/) showing our company as registered,

OR

• A copy of the Manufacturer Identification Letter most recently submitted to NHTSA by our company, along with a copy of either the Registered Mail receipt or the fax confirmation sheet showing that NHTSA has received it.
