The NTEA’s Young Executives Network (YEN) hosted a training session in conjunction with the Truck Product Conference, which was held in September in Dearborn, MI. After reflecting on my first YEN event, I’m left with an extremely positive impression and am looking forward to seeing what will happen next.
Now, you may think I’m biased because I’m a Steering Committee member, but the YEN comprises a great group of individuals who truly care about the industry. New ideas were constantly suggested throughout our session, with the goal of increased personal development firmly at the forefront.
During the session, Steve Latin-Kasper, NTEA market data and research director, led a discussion on the current state of the industry and gave an overview of which business segments are expected to recover more quickly than others.
Bob Miller, NTEA director of strategic opportunities, gave a presentation on avenues for professional development, including the NTEA’s SMART Online Training program that offers convenient courses to enhance sales, shop and management skills.
Members who were unable to attend really missed out on a great deal of information. We had the unique opportunity to hear a high-level point of view on current economic conditions as well as gain a better understanding of the NTEA’s training offerings and how they can help member companies increase productivity and profitability, even during tough economic times.
I would encourage all eligible NTEA members who are interested in the YEN to fill out an application immediately! The group is offering a Leadership Workshop on March 10 during The Work Truck Show® 2010 in St. Louis, with the ultimate goal of surpassing attendance at our sessions at The Work Truck Show 2009 and the Truck Product Conference.
