Cranes and derricks in construction: operator certification extension

Published in the September 2017 issue of Washington Update

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued a notice of proposed rulemaking to delay the deadline to certify crane operators by one year – Nov. 17, 2018. The proposal also includes extending the existing employer duty to Nov. 17, 2018; this would ensure operators of equipment covered by this standard are competent to operate the equipment safely. The Agency delayed the deadline for operator certification by three years to November 10, 2017, and extended the existing employer duties for the same period.  Comments must be received by Sept. 29, 2017
