Tax reform

Published in the August 2017 issue of Washington Update

Congress is likely to take a break from the health care issue and turn its focus on tax reform. Tax reform is likely to have more bipartisan appeal than did health care insurance reform. Republicans have made known some broad tenants of their plan (cutting rates for both individuals and businesses) but offered few specifics other than to say that they are no longer looking to include a border adjustment tax, which would have taxed imports at 20 percent.

Democratic senators have indicated that they can’t support tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and they can’t vote for legislation that adds to the deficit.
