Partial Federal government shutdown possible

Published in the December 2018 issue of Washington Update

Congress previously approved a two-week continuing resolution to fund government spending and avoid a Dec. 7 shutdown. Now they are facing another partial shutdown at the end of this week.

If Congress and the Administration cannot reach agreement (primarily over funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall), funding for the numerous agencies will expire Dec. 21.

The shutdown would affect about a quarter of the government and one-third of the federal workforce. In addition to Homeland Security, funding for the Department of Transportation is in jeopardy.
