NTEA recently crossed paths with John Moore of Robertson Truck Group, a distributor member headquartered in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Phil Robertson started the company in 1984, mainly selling grain trucks to local farmers in Knox County, Ohio (northeast of Columbus). The business flourished, and Phil expanded the facility to offer a full detail, fabrication and mechanical shop. Beginning as a medium- and heavy-duty truck dealership, the company quickly evolved to become one of Ohio’s premier body upfitters and truck dealerships. According to John, Robertson Truck Group’s ability to take any chassis and customize it for specific industry needs is what sets the organization apart from the competition.
Located entirely in Ohio, Robertson Truck Group is composed of four divisions: Robertson Truck Sales (Mount Vernon); National Truck & Equipment Sales (Columbus); Ohio Truck Equipment, an upfitting/fabrication division (Mount Vernon); and Equipment Leasing Solutions, a container/trailer rental division (Reynoldsburg). Ethan Robertson, Phil’s son, assumed daily operations in 2015. In 2016, he led efforts to open the organization’s second dealership, National Truck & Equipment Sales.
John explained, “We can have a truck mechanically serviced, detailed/painted and upfitted to a customer’s specific needs with one point of contact, simplifying the process.” Robertson Truck Group carries Fontaine Trailer, Sure-Trac Trailers, NRC Industries, Beau-Roc, Buyers Products, Godwin bodies, Switch-N-Go hoist systems, Jet Co. trailers, Swaploader, and more. Partnering with Kioti Tractors in 2018 enabled the company to grow and provide customers with a more complete product line, on and off the road.
With a team of 70 employees, Robertson Truck Group is constantly changing to offer customers different products and services. Through building its distributor base and investing in a 24,000-square foot upfitting facility, it aims to become an industry leader by changing and enhancing the truck-buying process.

Robertson Truck Group built its success on change and innovation. “We aren’t just your typical truck dealership,” said John. The company is breaking the mold of how dealerships operate through state-of-the-art scheduling software that presents a live feed of your truck or equipment status through every step of the process. Its upfitting software monitors the efficiency and materials down to every bolt that goes into each truck to afford customers the most accurate pricing when quoting builds. The organization is undergoing a significant website redesign to complement its efforts.
