NTEA recently met up with Intercon Truck Equipment Inc., headquartered in Aston, Pennsylvania, with additional locations in Joppa, Maryland, and Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
In 1992, Jerry Southern Sr., with the help of Tom Yeager, Don Whitaker and Jerry Jr. (all still with the company), founded Intercon Truck. By this time, Jerry Sr. had years of industry experience, including work as a mechanic for his father after high school and later in sales at Gallagher Equipment where he traveled to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates writing hundreds of orders. Eventually, Intercon expanded by purchasing Waddle Truck Equipment. Growth continued through a partnership with Frank Lombardo to establish Triad Truck Equipment in Pottstown. ITE Parts Inc. (Intercon Truck Equipment’s online store) is the most recent investment.
Family-owned and -operated since its inception, Intercon has become one of the premier truck equipment groups on the East Coast by pursuing untapped markets, opening state-of-the-art facilities and navigating new business ventures. At its origin, Intercon exclusively installed truck bodies, then expanded into hi-rail equipment, trailers and paint application, and became an extensive parts supplier.
The organization’s 65,000 square-foot facility opened in 2016 and sits on 7 acres. It features production bays capable of simultaneously working on 34 trucks, 48 overhead cranes to assist in body installation, paint prep bays with two booths (35- and 40-foot), a spray-on liner bay and 1,500 square-foot retail showroom.
Intercon Truck Equipment is a premier distributor, manufacturer, service repair and parts center. Learn more at intercontruck.com.
With nearly 200 employees, the business credits its success to Jerry Sr.’s drive and, most importantly, to its loyal and hardworking employees, many of whom have been with the company 10 years or more. From installation to custom fabrication to maintenance and repair, Intercon Truck is proud to be a one-stop-shop that has been building and investing in the truck equipment industry for the past 66 years and plans to continue for many more. Intercon customers depend on the organization’s knowledge, craftmanship and expertise and have come to know, “The right people make a big difference.”
A distributor member since 1993, Intercon is part of NTEA’s Member Verification Program, which recognizes eligible work truck industry companies for outstanding business practices and successful implementation of quality standards.
