NTEA visited U.S. Upfitters/Inlad Truck & Van (Lombard, Illinois), founded in 2003 as a provider of commercial truck and van equipment. The company began as a spin-off of a family-owned and operated business, Industrial Ladder & Supply, which opened its doors in 1975.

Jim Fuller, president, said they started the new business concentrating exclusively on the light-duty pickup truck and van market. The company quickly evolved into a full-line provider of equipment and services for vans and pickup trucks for local contractors, dealerships and fleets. With the help of his partner, Kevin Mulvihill, they expanded into Maryland and Wisconsin in 2004. Mulvihill, president of the Maryland location, is involved in all aspects of the company.

U.S. Upfitters specializes in designing, selling, installing and servicing shelving, racks, bins, ladder racks, toolboxes, bulkheads, liftgates, ramps, auxiliary lighting, cargo locks, alarms, and other commercial vehicle equipment. It represents more than 100 of the industry’s top manufactured products and can complete most jobs with a one-day turnaround or ship most products within 24 hours to customers who perform their own installations. The company has a unique mobile installation service that can come directly to your door for the upfit. U.S. Upfitters prefers to work directly with vehicle end users to custom-design every aspect and feature of the truck for a completely work-ready vocational product.

Other equipment supplied includes cargo protection alarms, anti-theft devices, back-up alarms, computer equipment mounts, electrical inverters, emergency lighting, LED and strobe light bars, pickup caps, roof ventilators, running boards, underbody toolboxes and truck boxes.

U.S. Upfitters works closely with truck dealerships and leasing companies and is an authorized upfitter for Ford, General Motors, Chrysler/Ram, Mercedes Benz, Freightliner and Nissan. The company is a Ram ProMaster City ship-thru in District Heights, Maryland, and has a Nissan bailment pool in Lombard.

The business has approximately 75 employees in three locations around the country — in Lombard on 3 acres with a 45,000-square foot building; Brookfield, Wisconsin, on 1.5 acres with a 14,600-square foot facility; and District Heights, Maryland, on 1.5 acres with a 15,400-square foot building.

Fuller said the goal is to provide the highest level of customer service, expert knowledge and overall satisfaction to customers. He emphasized outperforming customer expectations every day is the objective with each sale, and added that it could only be accomplished with the help of his dedicated team.

U.S. Upfitters is a long-time supporter of American Red Cross, Fisher House Foundation, Gary Sinise Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Washington D.C., St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Project Echo, Wounded Warrior Project and Toys for Tots.

In 2018, the business will launch a new U.S. Upfitters logo and drop the Inlad name. For more information, visit usupfitters.com or call 800-377-5652.
