Wheels Inc. (Des Plaines, Illinois) was selected by International Data Group’s CIO as a recipient of the 2018 CIO 100 award for the second consecutive year. This prestigious award recognizes 100 organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology.
Wheels was honored for its Mobile Assistant app that enables drivers of company-provided fleet vehicles to view important fleet-related records and activities, record business mileage, contact roadside assistance, and more on their mobile devices. By applying advanced machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality applications to existing smartphone technology, Wheels created a productivity-enhancing tool that streamlines recordkeeping and reduces the time needed to perform routine tasks.
“We are very proud that for the second year in a row IDG recognized Wheels for the strength of our technology team and innovative solutions,” said Tim O’Hara, chief information officer, aWheels. “We consistently explore new technologies and incorporate client feedback in order to enhance our products and services, while positively impacting our clients’ business. The Wheels Mobile Assistant is another great example.”
The Wheels Mobile Assistant was built by the company’s internal “skunkworks” division, or Product Innovation Team, a multi-discipline group focused on creating game-changing innovations to advance the fleet industry. Based on field usability research with fleet drivers, the team’s data scientists built special algorithms that optimized the app, maximizing driver productivity and enhancing their experience. For example, users are able to accurately enter monthly mileage certifications in 60 seconds or less.
The 2018 CIO 100 Award recipients were selected by a team of external judges (many of them former CIOs) based on use of leading-edge IT practices and measurable results.
